Higher Education Day
An annual day dedicated to highlighting the value of pursuing university-level studies and the role of higher education in personal and professional development. It serves as an opportunity for students to reflect on their academic goals, explore different career paths, and consider the impact of advanced learning on their future prospects. Beyond the classroom, the day encourages a broader conversation about making higher education more accessible, affordable, and inclusive for everyone, ensuring that all individuals have the chance to achieve their full potential.
Speaking Discussion
- Is a university degree still worth 0,000, or is it just an expensive piece of paper?
- Should 18-year-olds be allowed to take on life-changing debt before they have even had a full-time job?
- Can YouTube and AI provide a better education than a traditional professor?
- Why do we still value status (where you went) over skill (what you can actually do)?
- If you were starting a New school from zero, what is the first subject you would ban?
Activity 1: The University President
The Task: Your university is going bankrupt. Students are leaving because they can't find jobs. You have 3 minutes to re-invent the curriculum. You must delete 3 traditional subjects and add 3 future skills. Pitch your survival plan to the alumni.
Activity 2: Rapid Fire Debate
Justify in 30 seconds: 1. 'Most university degrees are just 'participation trophies' for the rich.' 2. 'Degrees should have an 'expiration date'—if you don't update your skills, your degree becomes invalid.' 3. 'Experience is the only true teacher, and the classroom is a prison for talent.'
