International Tiger Day
A global awareness day dedicated to the preservation of the world's most iconic big cat. Tigers have lost 93% of their historic range due to human expansion, poaching, and climate change. Today, we debate the ethics of wildlife conservation, the role of apex predators in the ecosystem, and our responsibility to protect the planet's most dangerous—and beautiful—animals.
Speaking Discussion
- Why do humans have such a deep, primal fascination with tigers? Is it fear, or respect for their power?
- Should we spend millions of dollars to save one species (like the tiger) while thousands of smaller, less beautiful animals go extinct every year?
- Is it ethical to keep tigers in zoos for educational purposes, or should they only exist in the wild, even if it means they might disappear?
- How does the disappearance of an apex predator like the tiger affect the entire local ecosystem and food chain?
- If you were given a massive forest and told you must share it with a family of wild tigers, would you feel safe?
- What is the most iconic wild animal in your country? What is being done to protect its habitat?
