This lesson is designed for students aged 18+ and explores mature themes including relationship psychology, boundaries, and trust. Use with professional discretion.

February 20th • Trust & Boundaries

National Handcuff Day

Officially created to mark the anniversary of the modern police handcuff patent in 1912, this day has been playfully hijacked by modern culture as an excuse for adults to explore themes of trust, power, and boundaries. Today, we move past the novelty to debate the deeper psychology of giving up control, how the internet redefines traditional objects, and the importance of clear communication in intimate partnerships.

Speaking Discussion (Adults Only)

  • How does the internet completely change the original, innocent meaning of certain historical days or objects? Can you think of other examples?
  • Why is the idea of giving up physical control to a partner considered by many to be an ultimate act of romantic trust?
  • Do you think pop culture (movies, books, memes) has made exploring alternative adult activities completely mainstream or boring?
  • What is the most ridiculous or cheeky thing you have ever purchased as a joke or a novelty gift?
  • How do couples successfully negotiate boundaries when trying something completely new and potentially intimidating? Is it easier today than 20 years ago?
  • In your opinion, is bedroom psychology a reflection of a person's real-world personality, or can it be the exact opposite?
