Social media trends are often completely unpredictable, but the latest viral craze in Finland has left parents and school teachers completely baffled. The trend involves teenagers recording their flatulence on camera, rating the loudness, duration, and odour, and posting the reviews to TikTok.
The highly unusual videos are gathering millions of views, turning ordinary school pupils into overnight viral sensations. While many older residents find the behaviour absolutely gross, the creators take their reviews surprisingly seriously, treating it like a specialized hobby.
In the videos, teenagers use high-quality microphones and detailed rating cards to score their performance. They discuss the impact of different foods on their scores, giving detailed advice to their followers on how to maximize their ratings.
"People think it's crude, but it's actually an art form. You need the perfect combination of microphone placement and diet to get a five-star rating," explained 19-year-old viral creator Mikko, defending his videos. "My followers love the honesty, and we are just trying to have a bit of light-hearted fun in a stressful world."
However, health professionals are highly concerned by the trend's growing popularity. In a bid to boost their scores, many teenagers are consuming massive, highly dangerous quantities of highly gaseous foods, which is causing severe digestive discomfort.
Dr. Hanna, a GP in Helsinki, warned: "We are seeing a worrying number of teenagers consuming excessive amounts of baked beans and raw onions purely to boost their social media engagement. It is a digestive nightmare, and they are essentially putting their gut health at risk for cheap internet fame."
Whether this gas-filled trend will blow over soon or continue to rise in popularity remains to be seen, but for now, Finnish parents are desperately hoping for a return to normal, simple internet dances. In the meantime, the bizarre Flatulence Judges continue to dominate the local TikTok algorithms.
