The situation occurred on a Friday afternoon. Sabine, a 45-year-old senior manager, was walking through the open-plan office. She passed the desk of Anna, a 24-year-old junior colleague who had recently started working at the firm. According to witnesses, Sabine loudly commented that Anna was looking extremely good and sexy today, before slapping the younger woman on her bottom.

Anna was deeply uncomfortable and immediately reported the physical contact to the company's Human Resources department. Following a brief internal investigation, the agency took strict action. They officially dismissed Sabine from her high-paying position without any warning.

Furious at the decision, Sabine took her former employers to an employment tribunal, suing them for unfair dismissal. The German court unanimously agreed with the company and threw out Sabine's legal case. The judge stated that such behaviour creates a hostile working environment and damages the professional reputation of the business.
