'Will', 'Going To', and Present Continuous

💋 So, what's on the agenda for tonight?

In English, we don't just have one way to talk about the future. The tense you use depends entirely on how spontaneous you are being. Are you ripping off your clothes in the heat of the moment, or did you pencil in a cheeky hookup for 9:00 PM next Tuesday? Let's sort out your future tenses so you can schedule your conquests like a pro.

1. The Cheeky Dictionary: 8 Words for Scheduling Romance

Quickie (noun): A very brief sexual encounter.
Anticipation (noun): The exciting feeling of waiting for something naughty to happen.
Rain check (noun): Politely declining an invitation but promising to do it another time.
Stamina (noun): The physical energy needed to keep going for a long time.
Nightcap (noun): A final alcoholic drink taken just before bed (often an excuse to invite someone inside).
Exhausted (adj): Completely physically tired. Wiped out.
Booty call (noun): A late-night message or call arranging a casual sexual encounter.
Fully booked (phrase): Having no free time in your diary because you are so popular.

2. Grammar Mechanics: The Future of Your Love Life

Are you deciding right now, or did you plan this hookup yesterday? Choose your tense carefully.

Tense When to use it Cheeky Example
Will / Won't Spontaneous decisions made *at the exact moment of speaking*. Also used for promises. "Wow, you look fit. I will pay for the cab."
"I promise I won't tell anyone."
Going To Intentions. You have already thought about it and decided to do it, but the details aren't 100% confirmed. "I am going to text him tonight."
(The intention is there!)
Present Continuous
(am/is/are + verb-ing)
Fixed arrangements. It's in the diary. Time and place are sorted. "I am meeting Dave at 8 PM at the hotel."

Notice how Ryan and Sam use different future tenses to figure out their plans!

Ryan: Hey! What are you doing tonight? I am going to order a takeaway and drink wine. Come over!
Sam: I can't! I am seeing that bloke from Tinder at 7 PM. It's fully arranged.
Ryan: Ah, bad timing. Can I take a rain check? What about tomorrow?
Sam: Tomorrow is bad. I'm going to be exhausted.
Ryan: Well, my flat is empty right now...
Sam: You know what? I will cancel the Tinder date. I'm coming to yours for a quickie!
Ryan: Brilliant! I will leave the front door unlocked.

4. Interactive Practice: Booking the Bedroom

Exercise A: Choose the right Future Tense

1. (The phone rings) "Don't worry, I it!"

2. "I can't go to the pub tonight. I dinner with my new girlfriend's parents at 8 PM."

3. "Look at those dark clouds! It ruin my hair." (Prediction based on evidence!)

Exercise B: Spontaneous vs Planned

Decide if the sentence needs 'will' (spontaneous) or 'am/is/are + verb-ing' (fixed plan).

1. (You just realized you have no condoms) "Oh no! Wait here, I (run) to the shop right now."

2. (It's in your calendar) "I (fly) to Paris next weekend for a romantic getaway."


5. Speaking Practice: Spilling the Tea ☕

  1. Are you more of a spontaneous person, or do you prefer to have your dates fully planned and penciled in?
  2. When is the best time to ask for a rain check on a date? (An hour before? A day before?)
  3. What are you doing this weekend? (Use the Present Continuous for fixed arrangements!)
  4. If you get a booty call at 2 AM, what will you say?
  5. Have you ever faked being exhausted just to get out of seeing someone?
