Comparatives, Superlatives & Measuring Up
Whether you're talking about his ego, her bank account, or the size of the cocktails at the bar, human beings love to compare things. Itโs natural! But if you don't know your comparatives from your superlatives, you won't be able to explain why your new date is an absolute upgrade over your ex. Or worse, you might accuse someone of compensating with bad grammar.
1. He goes to the gym six days a week, so he is absolutely .
2. I can't believe she left Liam for Dave. What an absolute !
3. He bought a gold watch, but honestly, it just looks to me.
4. I can't buy you a pint tonight, I don't get paid until Friday and I'm totally .
5. He looks so because he lives entirely on instant noodles and black coffee.
When comparing two things, we use Comparatives. When declaring someone the absolute winner (or loser) of the group, we use Superlatives.
| Syllables | Comparative (+ than) | Superlative (the +) |

| Irregulars ๐จ | Good โ better Bad โ worse |
Good โ the best Bad โ the worst |
