World Senior Citizens Day

A day to recognise and appreciate the contributions that older people make to our communities. As life expectancy increases globally, the definition of old is changing. Today, we debate the value of generational wisdom, the challenges of an aging population, and how we can bridge the digital gap to ensure our elders remain active participants in modern society.

A senior citizen sharing wisdom

Speaking Discussion

  • In your culture, are senior citizens generally treated with respect, or are they often overlooked by younger generations?
  • What is the most important piece of advice you have ever received from an older person? Does it still apply today?
  • As we move toward a more digital world, how can we prevent senior citizens from feeling lonely or isolated?
  • Should there be a mandatory retirement age, or should people be allowed to work as long as they are capable?
  • Do you think multi-generational living (grandparents, parents, and children in one house) is a good idea for modern families?
  • If you could download the memories and life experience of a 90-year-old, would you want to? What would you hope to find?
