Future Continuous

For when you want to sound like you know exactly what you'll be doing in the future!

🔮 What's This Future Continuous Business?

The Future Continuous is for talking about actions that will be in progress at a specific time in the future. It's like having a crystal ball for your boring schedule!

The Magic Formula:

will + be + verb + -ing

Same for everyone - I, you, he, she, it, we, they + will be doing something

Subject Will Be Verb + -ing Example
I/You/He/She/It/We/They will be working I will be working
I/You/He/She/It/We/They will be sleeping She will be sleeping
I/You/He/She/It/We/They will be studying They will be studying

⏰ When to Use This Future Vision

1. Actions in Progress at a Specific Future Time:

  • "At 9 PM tonight, I will be watching Netflix." (As usual)
  • "This time tomorrow, she will be flying to Paris." (Lucky her)
  • "Next week, we will be working on the project." (Unfortunately)

2. Polite Inquiries (Sounds Less Demanding):

  • "Will you be using the car tonight?" (Can I borrow it?)
  • "Will she be coming to the party?" (Should I prepare?)
  • "Will they be staying long?" (When can I relax?)

3. Predictions About Future Activities:

  • "People will be living on Mars someday." (Hopefully)
  • "Robots will be doing our jobs." (Scary thought)
  • "I will be regretting this decision." (Probably)

🕐 Time Expressions (Your Future Schedule)

  • At + specific time: "At 3 PM, I'll be working."
  • This time + period: "This time next year, I'll be traveling."
  • By + time: "By then, we'll be living together."
  • All day/week/month: "I'll be studying all weekend."

🚫 Negative and Questions

Negative: will + not + be + verb + -ing

  • "I won't be working tomorrow." (It's Saturday)
  • "She won't be coming with us." (Her loss)
  • "They won't be staying long." (Thank goodness)

Questions: Will + subject + be + verb + -ing?

  • "Will you be working late?" (Should I wait?)
  • "Will she be joining us?" (I hope so)
  • "What will you be doing tonight?" (Just curious)
