Missing an important flight is always an incredibly stressful experience that can easily cause anyone to panic. However, a Hungarian husband recently decided to take highly extreme, desperate measures that left border control officials at Budapest Airport absolutely in stitches.
45-year-old Laszlo was rushing to catch a non-refundable flight from Budapest to Rome to attend his mother's highly anticipated, milestone 80th birthday party. It was only while riding in the taxi that he opened his bag and realized, to his absolute horror, that he had accidentally picked up his wife's passport instead of his own.
Realizing that there was absolutely no time to return home without missing the departure, Laszlo entered a state of sheer panic. In a moment of extreme desperation, he opened his suitcase, which luckily contained the clothes his wife had packed for the holiday. He decided his only hope of boarding the plane was to physically disguise himself as his wife to fool the passport control officers.
Laszlo hastily pulled on a bright floral sundress, threw a long blonde wig over his bald head, and applied a thick layer of pink lipstick, hoping the photo match would be close enough to bypass the initial security gate.
"He had the passport, he had the wig, he even had the floral dress," said a chuckling airport security official. "But unfortunately for him, he was 6-foot-3, had a hairy chest popping out of the neckline, and forgot to shave his thick, bushy beard. He didn't stand a chance."
Laszlo was immediately pulled aside by highly alert border agents. While the security team found the ridiculous disguise absolutely hilarious, they were forced to strictly deny him boarding due to obvious international travel regulations. He did not stand a chance of getting past the gate.
Although Laszlo painfully missed his mother's birthday flight, the local police kindly decided not to press charges for identity fraud. They realized his intentions were completely harmless, letting him off with a very stern warning and a highly memorable warning letter.
The hilarious incident has quickly become the talk of Budapest Airport. It serves as a stark reminder to always double-check your passport document before you head out the doorβand that a bushy beard rarely blends in with a floral dress.
