National No Bra Day

Originally created in Toronto to promote breast cancer awareness, National No Bra Day has evolved into a global conversation about comfort, feminism, and professional standards. Every October 13th, millions of people choose to ditch the bra for 24 hours. Today, we debate why society often expects restrictive clothing in public, the history of gender-specific fashion rules, and whether the modern workplace should finally abandon traditional dress codes.

Speaking Discussion

  • Why do you think society often expects women to wear restrictive underwear like bras in public spaces? Is it about modesty or tradition?
  • Do you think professional workplaces should be allowed to enforce a dress code that requires specific types of underwear or formal clothing?
  • Is the choice to go braless a fashion statement, a feminist statement, or simply a matter of physical comfort?
  • How do people in your culture usually react when someone breaks traditional fashion rules or dress codes?
  • Would you feel comfortable attending a formal event (like a wedding or a gala) without wearing standard restrictive clothing? Why or why not?
  • In your opinion, has the work from home revolution permanently changed our relationship with formal office fashion?
