The Future of Vertical Farming. We use the humble carrot to debate the ethics of industrialised nature and whether high-tech agriculture is a savior of the planet or the end of our connection to the soil.

International Carrot Day Lesson Visual

Speaking Discussion

  • Is lab-Grown food still real food?
  • If we could grow all our vegetables in urban skyscrapers, should we turn all farms back into wild forests?
  • Why are humans obsessed with making vegetables look perfect (straight, orange, clean)?
  • Is the organic label a genuine health benefit or just a luxury status symbol?
  • What is the one natural flavour you would never want to see replaced by a chemical version?

Activity 1: The Vertical Farmer

The Task: You are a start-up founder pitching the sky-Garden to a group of billionaire investors. Your technology grows carrots in 100-story buildings using zero soil and 90% less water. Defend your plan against a traditional farmer who says your food has no soul.

Activity 2: Rapid Fire Debate

Justify in 30 seconds: 1. 'Genetic modification is the only way to feed 10 billion people.' 2. 'Nature is not efficient, and that's why we must improve it.' 3. 'We should prioritise calories over flavour in a global food crisis.'
