World Bee Day

A day to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem. Without bees, humans would lose a massive portion of the global food supply.

Speaking Discussion

  • What's the scariest encounter you've ever had with an insect? Did you run away screaming?
  • What do you think would happen to our food supply if bees actually went extinct?
  • Why do you think bee numbers are dropping so fast lately? Is it just pollution, or something else?
  • Would you ever consider keeping bees as a hobby, or does the idea of thousands of stingers nearby freak you out?
  • If you were the leader of the world, what one law would you pass to save the environment?

Activity 1: The Great Debate

Motion: "The government should ban the use of all chemical pesticides, even if it means fresh food becomes twice as expensive."

Split the class into two sides. Team A must argue for banning chemicals to save insects; Team B must argue that affordable food is the priority.
